Motorcycle Rider & Passenger Injured by Drunk Driver

A pickup truck driver struck and injured a motorcycle rider and the rider's passenger, who is the wife of the motorcyclist.

The motorcycle accident happened at about 6:40 p.m. on Wednesday in Fallbrook. The pickup truck, a 1997 Mazda B2300 driven by Randall Arnold, 57-years-old, was northbound on South Mission Road. Arnold began to turn left onto Almond Street, directly in front of the motorcyclist, who was southbound on Mission Rd.

Arnold failed to yield the right of way and collided with a 2010 Kawasaki motorcycle operated by Stuart Lessig, 24-years-old. Lessig and his wife Elizabeth Lessig, also 24, were ejected from the motorcycle.

Both Lessigs sustained major injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol. Arnold, who sustained minor injuries, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving as a result of the motorcycle accident.

Motorcycle accidents commonly result from a vehicle driver turning left in front of a motorcyclist, violating the motorcyclist's right of way. The vehicle driver may have been inattentive or distracted.
