3-Vehicle Rear-End Collision on 22 Freeway

A three-vehicle rear-end collision happened today on the 22 Freeway in Orange.

The accident happened just before 8:40 a.m. During rush hour commuter traffic, two vehicles, a Ford Focus and a Honda Odyssey, stopped in the number lane due to slowing traffic ahead. A Volvo XC90 slammed into the rear of the Odyssey, pushing it into the Focus.

A passenger in the Volvo, a female, suffered minor injuries and was treated at a nearby hospital.

Freeway rear-end collisions are one of the most common types of car accidents. They usually happen during rush hour. There are several things that a driver can do to minimize the chance of getting rear-ended:

  • Signal before you change lanes.
  • Always be aware of traffic around you. Make sure your mirrors are properly adjusted.
  • Make sure your brake lights work and are free of debris.
  • If you notice a tailgater or cell phone user behind you, change lanes.
  • Always keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead of you. That way, you will decrease the chance that you will have to slam on the brakes, which could result in your vehicle being rear-ended. If it's raining, increase your following distance.

If you have been injured in a rear-end collision, speak with a car accident attorney at McGee, Lerer & Associates. We have offices in Santa Monica, Long Beach, Pasadena and Los Angeles. A personal injury lawyer at our firm is available 24/7 for a free consultation. Do not speak with the other driver's insurance company before you have consulted with an attorney. Otherwise, you will be taken advantage of by the insurance adjuster.
