Pot Smokers Twice as Likely to Cause Car Accident

A study published in this week's British Medical Journal found that people who smoke marijuana within three hours of driving are almost twice as likely to cause a car accident than drivers who are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Prior studies have shown that there is a significantly increased risk of an accident if the driver is 35 years old or younger.

According to the study's authors, their study is more reliable than past studies because they separated out the use of alcohol and other drugs from the use of marijuana.

Researchers found that marijuana use impairs motor tasks that are necessary for safe driving.
