Hit and Run Driver Critically Injures Bicyclist in Santa Ana

A pickup truck driver struck a bicyclist Friday evening in Santa Ana, and then fled the scene.

According to Santa Ana police Cmdr. Larry Coleman, the accident happened just before 6:45 p.m. in the 100 block of South Broadway. The bicyclist, a male whose name has not been released by the police department, was unconscious when paramedics arrived at the scene. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He is being treated for a head injury.

The pickup truck was described by authorities as white, possibly a Toyota Tundra. It had ladders and a ladder rack on top, and blue lettering along the side of the truck. A hubcap from the truck came off and was left at the scene of the accident.

Police are asking anyone with information about the pickup truck or hit and run driver to contact the Santa Ana Police Department.
