A 23-year-old driver was sentenced to jail today for the 2011 hit-and-run death of a teenage bicyclist in Canoga Park.
The accident happened on April 20, 2011. German Alex Romero, a 17-year-old senior at Chatsworth High School, was riding his bicycle on De Soto Ave., north of Valerio St., in Canoga Park. Driver Dominique Marie Rush, a 23-year-old Porter Ranch resident, struck the bicyclist from behind, then fled the scene.
Romero was pronounced dead at the scene.
After the driver fled the scene, her father Steven Rush, 45-years-old, had the car repaired, then sent to a junkyard hoping to get rid of the evidence.
The driver pleaded no contest to gross vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident. She was sentenced to two years and eight months in state prison. Her father pleaded no contest to being an accessory after the crime. He was sentenced to 10 days in jail, three years of probation, and 30 days of community service.
