Pit Bull Attacks 2-Year-Old in Oxnard

A pit bull attacked a two-year-old boy in Oxnard Sunday afternoon, biting him multiple times.

The victim was at his babysitter's home when he was attacked by the dog. The boy suffered major facial injures as well as bite wounds to his neck. He was transported by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center.

The boy apparently had food in his hand when the dog attacked him.

The pit bull belongs to the babysitter's brother. After the dog attacked the boy, the dog's owner threw the dog out of the house and the dog ran away. A search for the dog ensued. An animal services officer found the dog at about 2:40 p.m. on Monday in the backyard of a home about a block from the home where the attack occurred.

The pit bull has been turned over to Ventura County Animal Services and quarantined. According to Animal Control Officer Lisa Jenkins, the dog's owner has been fined $1,000 for ten animal control violations which involve the subject pit bull and three other dogs at the home. The violations involved: failing to license the dogs, failing to vaccinate the dogs for rabies, violating leash laws, and having an animal that causes injury without provocation.
