3 Car Crash on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu; 1 Killed

A three-vehicle accident in Malibu on Pacific Coast Highway left one person dead Saturday morning.

The accident happened about 8:10 a.m. on PCH near its intersection with Rambla Pacifico Rd. According to Sergeant Anthony Arnold of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, a red Ford Explorer which was eastbound on PCH crossed the center median and slammed into a westbound vehicle. The westbound vehicle then spun out of control and struck another westbound vehicle.

Two people were airlifted to Ronald Regan UCLA Medical Center, including the driver of the Explorer that drifted into oncoming traffic. A 16-year-old passenger in one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene. A woman in a westbound car was transported by ambulance to Santa Monica UCLA Hospital for treatment.

According to one report, the Explorer may have blown out a tire before it veering into oncoming lanes.
