A tow truck driver was fatally struck by a hit-and-run driver on Pacific Coast Highway Monday night in Malibu.
The accident happened about 9 p.m. Ronald Carver, a 44-year-old tow truck driver working for Platinum Town and Transport, was assisting a disabled car that was on the eastbound side of Pacific Coast Highway at John Tyler Dr. Driver Jill Rose, a 44-year-old Santa Monica resident, struck the tow truck driver, then fled the scene. Rose continued eastbound on PCH approximately two miles, where she crashed into a parked car near the Malibu Pier.
Carver, a Newbury Park resident, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
According to Sergeant Dan Nagelmann of the Malibu Los Hills Sheriff's Station, witnesses identified Rose's vehicle as the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run accident.
It is unknown at this time whether Rose was driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. Toxicology test results are pending.
The hit-and-run driver was injured and transported to a local hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.
