Unlicensed SUV Driver Kills Pedestrian

|

On Saturday, the unlicensed driver of a sport utility vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian in Panorama City.

The accident happened at about 5:35 a.m. Patricia Riedy, a Montana resident, was crossing Woodman Ave. when she was hit by a black Ford Explorer driven by 36-year-old Martha Cruz of Panorama City.

The pedestrian, 60-years-old, was crossing outside of a crosswalk south of Cantara St. According to Valley Traffic Bureau Officer Ralph Emard, Ms. Riedy was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was not arrested or charged with a crime because she cooperated at the scene. She will likely be charged with driving without a license.

If you have been injured in a pedestrian v. vehicle accident, contact a Santa Monica personal injury attorney at McGee, Lerer & Associates to learn your rights. Even if you were outside of a crosswalk when you were struck, there may be fault on the driver if the driver could have or should have seen you.
