Wrong-Way Freeway Car Crash Kills Long Beach Man

A Long Beach man drove his car the wrong way on the 55 Freeway on Saturday and was killed.

The accident happened about 2:55 a.m. in Tustin. The wrong-way driver, 26-year-old Victor Gomez Zarco, drove his Nissan Altima southbound on the northbound 55 Freeway. Near East Santa Clara Ave., Zarco slammed into a Volkswagen Tiguan that was being driven by a 23-year-old woman from La Palma.

The driver of the Volkswagen suffered major injuries and was transported to Western Medical Center.

The wrong-way driver was pronounced dead at the scene of the car accident. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles.
