USC Motorcyclist Injured in Hit and Run Accident

|

On Tuesday, a hit and run driver struck a 21-year-old male USC student who was riding a motorcycle, critically injuring the motorcyclist.

The accident happened just after sundown at the intersection of Vermont and Lexington near Los Feliz. According to LAPD detective Jonny Meneses, the hit and run driver, identified as Jose Arevalo, was turning left. Arevalo was driving a 1993 GMC Safari van, which was later recovered.

According to witnesses, Arevalo briefly stopped to view the scene after striking the motorcyclist, then took off down Vermont.

California law requires that any motorist immediately stop after being involved in an accident, render aid, and cooperate with authorities when they arrive.

The motorcyclist was treated for numerous fractures, including a fractured right arm, left wrist, leg, and fractured ribs.

Police are still trying to locate Arevalo, and are asking for the public's help. The motorcyclist's name is not being released pending notification to his family.
