Teen Dead after Crashing on 10 Freeway in Santa Monica

A teenager died after crashing his car into a wall of the 10 Freeway in Santa Monica early Saturday morning.

The accident happened at about 1:35 a.m. Giovanny Soto, a 19-year-old Bell resident, was westbound on the 10 Freeway near the McClure Tunnel. He was driving a 2001 Ford Mustang. According to the California Highway Patrol, Soto was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when he lost control of his car. His vehicle slammed into a guardrail and an embankment wall. His Mustang then spun back onto the freeway and burst into flames.

The Mustang's driver was unable to escape. He was pronounced dead at the scene of accident. Two passengers in his car were able to exit the vehicle. Moments later, an Audi traveling westbound on the 10 hit the Mustang and hit a Jeep Cherokee that was passing by the crash scene.

The Mustang's two passengers, a 19-year-old male and a 16-year-old male, were transported to a local hospital, reportedly suffering minor injuries.

According to the CHP, the Mustang driver was driving under the influence of alcohol.
