|

A hit-and-run driver fatally struck a bicyclist on Friday in Santa Ana.

The accident happened just before 6:45 p.m. in the 100 block of South Broadway. Bicyclist Elfego Lozano-Nicolas, a 39-year-old Santa Ana resident, was struck by a pickup truck. The driver fled the scene.

When paramedics arrived, the bicyclist was unconscious. He was transported to Western Medical Center in critical condition. According to Supervising Deputy Coroner Larry Esslinger, Lozano-Nicolas died the following day as a result of blunt-force head trauma.

The hit-and-run vehicle was described as a white pickup, possibly a Toyota Tundra. The truck had a ladder rack and ladders on top. The pickup truck's hubcap was left at the scene. Police are seeking the public's help in identifying the hit-and-run driver.
